Mislabeled Supplements

America is in the midst of a bit of a health crisis.  With the continuation of high obesity rates and the prevalence of heart disease and diabetes continuing to rise, Americans are looking for anything that might help in the fight to get healthier.  It should come as no surprise then that many Americans are turning to supplements.  According to a government survey, more than half of all adults in the U.S. take at least one dietary supplement.

Weight loss is hard. Laurah Hawkins, owner and brainchild behind Eatology, understands that as well as anybody. While working with a local fitness program, Hawkins was mystified by the lack of results both she and some of her clients were experiencing. “People were working out but just couldn’t get the results, and we couldn’t figure out why,” says Hawkins.

Hope Pregnancy Center to Open STD Clinic in Bryan

STD testing and treatment is a natural fit for pregnancy medical centers like HPCBV. As such, Hope Pregnancy Centers has announced the purchase of the building located at 4112 E. 29th Street in Bryan. The Bryan building will add 6,000 square feet to HPCBV’s existing center of 4,200 square feet located at 205 Brentwood Drive in College Station.

Colorectal Screening Program Expands to 17 Counties

Texas A&M Health Science Center recently received another $1.5 million grant from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas that will enable a colorectal screening program to continue another three years and expand its outreach to an additional 10 counties across central Texas.

Dirty Dozen

The Environmental Working Group, a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to protecting human health and the environment, annually releases the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce. The guide allows people who want reduce their exposure to pesticides in produce to seek out conventionally grown fruits and vegetables that tend to test low for pesticide residues.
