Hospice Brazos Valley is dedicated to helping those grieving the loss of a loved one. They provide free grief counseling and support to the community at large in addition to hospice patients, caregivers, and family members. Individual and grief support groups help community members grieve while still making space for hope and healing.

All groups and events are led by Hospice Brazos Valley chaplains and/or licensed social workers specially trained in grief counseling and support. According to Hospice Brazos Valley chaplain and author Gary Roe, “Losing a loved one is painful and traumatic. We can lose them in an instant, or we can lose them over time. Some losses can wound the soul and crush the heart. Somehow, we must learn to be kind to ourselves. Patience, both with ourselves and others becomes a necessary survival skill. Wounded hearts can heal, but will never be the same. We must take our own grieving hearts seriously.”

Those ready to take their grieving heart seriously this year can choose the event or program that best serves their unique needs. Upcoming grief support programs include a Widowed Spouses Support Group for men and women grieving the loss of a spouse, a First Steps Support Group for adults grieving the loss of any loved one, and a Beyond Grief class for adults seeking to move forward after loss. All groups welcome participants to attend as needed to come and share or just listen. However, the Beyond Grief class requires a commitment for six consecutive Wednesdays. Two sessions of Beyond Grief will be offered during the spring beginning on Jan. 24 and April 4, respectively.

Hospice Brazos Valley aims to support those who have lost a loved one to ensure they do not hurt in silence. Chaplain Gary Roe said, “Those grieving a loss can learn how to carry their loved ones inside them while greeting the next portion of their journey with hope.”

There is no cost to attend, but space is limited, and RSVPs are appreciated. For more information, or to RSVP, contact Bereavement Coordinator Shawn Eigenbrode at (979) 821-2266 or email seigenbrode@hospicebrazosvalley.org.
