Throughout the world, the Rotary Club places a great emphasis on education, ethical behavior and the development of leadership skills for youth. In support of these principles, and to promote international understanding, goodwill and peace in the world, Rotary District 5910 conducts two exchange programs for school age young people in Southeast Texas.
To learn about the Rotary Youth Exchange Programs For High School Age Students, there will be an informational on Saturday, October 18 at 10:00am – noon. This event will be held at Lone Star College, Montgomery Campus in Conrow. The different programs offered will be described and questions answered by former exchange students and parents.
Programs are open to all young people of both genders including children and grandchildren of Rotarians. Participants serve as ambassadors of goodwill promoting better understanding among people of different cultures and selection is based in part on predicted success in such a position.
All Rotary programs are nonprofit and these programs are operated by nonpaid Rotary volunteers. Consequently, although providing significantly better supervision than other exchange programs, participant costs are less than 1/3 of those of most other programs. (For school year exchange students, host Rotary clubs provide a monthly allowance of approximately $100 per month, further reducing the cost. Moreover, on returning they can almost always obtain 12 or more semester hours university credit in a foreign language by exam.).
