April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, but Project Unity encourages citizens and organizations to play a role in making the Brazos Valley a better place to live for children every month. Project Unity promotes children’s social and emotional well-being, and prevents maltreatment within families by ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to care for their children.
“April is the time to spotlight the important role that communities play in protecting children,” says Judy LeUnes, Director of Development and Communications for Project Unity. “Participation is critical. Focusing on ways to build and promote the protective factors, in every interaction with children and families, is the best action our community can take to prevent child maltreatment and promote optimal child development.”
In honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Project Unity will host an open house on Tuesday, April 5, from 11am – 1 pm at 4001 East 29th Street, Suite 114 in the Carter Creek Center and Wednesday, April 6, from 11 am – 1 pm at 1400 Beck Street in Bryan.
Project Unity’s Parenting Wisely facilitators will be at the open house to conduct demonstrations of the Parenting Wisely video series. Snacks and blue ribbons will be provided. Pinwheels will be planted in the Project Unity Garden on Wednesday.
