The Bryan Rotary 10 Business Performance Awards took place July 22 in the College Station Hilton Ballroom as many businesses from around the community gathered to honor the fastest growing small businesses in the Brazos County. In cooperation with the B/CS Chamber of Commerce, the annual awards program recognizes small businesses for their achievements and impact on the local economy.

Introduced in 1994 by the Bryan Rotary Club and patterned after the Inc. 500 program. To be considered for the award, companies must be independent and privately owned, have been in business at least five years, be located in Brazos County, have sales between $50,000 and $25 million in fiscal 2010 and show a five=year sales history with growth from 2015-15.

The ceremony’s keynote speaker was Dr. Eli Jones, dean of Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. Jones connected Startup Aggieland, an incubator that harbors business ideas of Texas A&M students, to the businesses in the community. In addition, Jones presented the Bryan Rotary/Research Valley Commercialization Rising Star Award to Dr. James A. Monroe, founder, president, and materials engineer of Thermal Expansion Solutions Inc.

The Bryan Rotary Club/Anco Insurance Award for Lifetime Business Achievement was awarded to Texas Commercial Waste recognizing the longevity, customer service, community involvement, and financial growth of the company founded by Ron Schmidt in 1981.

Of the 10 companies awarded a Bryan Rotary 10 Business Performance Award, all have fewer than 50 employees. The companies were selected based on sales growth between 2013 to 2015.

Coming in at number one was Pitman Custom Homes, founded in 2011 by Jimmy Pitman, with a sales growth of 441.53 percent. The second place was awarded to J4 Engineering, founded in 2007 by Glenn Jones,  with 341.88 percent  sales growth. Third place was The Barracks Construction Group, LLC, founded in 2009 by Heath Phillips, with a sales growth of 163.36 percent.
