Spectators, family and friends are all invited to come out to cheer on athletes who are working toward representing the United States in the 2012 Olympics. The Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Archery Trials will be at 8:15 a.m. Thursday at the Penberthy Rec Sports Complex on the Texas A&M Campus.

Texas A&M University is hosting the 2011 USA Archery Olympic Team Trials right here in Aggieland, September 28 through October 1. The event is expected to attract 150 high-caliber contestants who are all taking aim at joining the USA archery team.

Texas A&M University is hosting the 2011 USA Archery Olympic Team Trials right here in Aggieland, September 28 through October 1. The event is expected to attract 150 high-caliber contestants who are all taking aim at joining the USA archery team. 

This is the first stage out of three for qualifying for the Olympics. At the end of this event, USA Archery will cut down to the top 16 archers for both men and women, and those 32 athletes will advance to the second stage. The Olympic events are only host to Recurve archers, shooting at a distance of 70 meters.

The schedule of events for the Olympic Team Trials is:

– September 28:  Official practice/check-in day.

 – September 29: Opening Ceremony at 8:15 a.m. Contestants then will shoot 144 arrows at 70 meters and will cut to the top 16 at the end, which is determined by overall score.

 –  September 30-October 1: Archers will shoot round robin matches against each other.
