On Thursday, Mayor Jason Bienski and Mayor Pro Tem Dave Ruesink will compete in the Tourism Savings Showdown at 10:30am at the H-E-B located on Texas Avenue.
The mayors will race around H-E-B and fill their carts with what they believe to be $800 worth of groceries, and the person who has the closet amount wins. The winning cart will be donated to the Brazos Valley Food Bank.
The Tourism Savings Showdown is an event held by the Bryan/College Station Convention & Visitors Bureau to show that tourism in Texas generates $800 in tax revenue per household every year. The event is a more tangible way for community members to see how that revenue can be put to use – by providing food for families.
