A Taste of Aggieland: Epicurean Extravaganza will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Brazos County Expo Center from 5:45 – 8:15pm. Sample cuisine from many local restaurants, while enjoying a fun evening of entertainment: Live music, a food eating contest, silent auction, professional chef demonstrations along with all the food and beverage from your favorite places.
The event raises funds for the Brazos Valley Restaurant Association as well as the Chamber of Commerce. The Brazos Valley Restaurant Association assists the high school culinary programs through the “ProStart” program visa vie the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation. There are competitions, classes taught in real life commercial kitchens, training and curriculum for instructors and a management component that is taught, and scholarships that are made available to students through this program. Many culinary programs are now at local high schools including: Bryan and Rudder High Schools, College Station High School, Navasota High School and Franklin High School. To learn more about “ProStart”, visit http://www.nraef.org/ProStart/Program-Overview.
At this year’s event, 4 of these schools will be competing with teams of students that are in the program “Culinary Cooking Competition.” The students have trained hard and are ready to show their style at the big event. Each team will be paired with a local celebrity chef to “coach” them through the competition.
