Everything is bigger in Texas, and the Spirit of Texas Festival is no exception. To prove it, there will be a triple threat of Guinness World Record attempts March 4.

  1. For the first record, scheduled to take place at 11am, more than 5,000 pounds of the Texas State food will be cooked up in a custom 14 foot wide, 4 foot deep pot. It is the Brazos Valley’s attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest serving of chili, which is held by North Dakota. Sanctioned by the Guinness Book of World Records, a Guinness Adjudicator will be onsite to bring the record back to Texas where it belongs!
  2. Next, that chili will be transformed into the world’s largest Frito Pie! The Frito Pie will be served up at 4pm in a massive ten foot Texas shaped pan, crafted by students at Rudder High School.
  3. Finally, at 5pm, work off all that deliciousness with a spin around the dance floor to create the largest Texas 2-Step dance, led by Brazos Valley’s very own Lil’ Wranglers and Elite Wranglers. Getting into the Guinness book will require at least 2,000 boot-scooting enthusiasts. Registration for the Texas 2-Step dance will begin at 12:15pm.

The Spirit of Texas Festival is not just about records, it is about all things Texas.

Up to 65,000 people are expected to fill Wolf Pen Creek Park during the four-day run, March 2-5.

Gates will open at 10am each morning and admission is free.

Two stages of live music from up and coming Texas artists provide the soundtrack for acres of foods, a kids idea village, a VIP shopping experience, and family fun.

A group of professional competitors, Major League Eaters– some of the same guys and gals who eat hot dogs at Coney Island on July 4th each year – will gorge their way to $5,000 in cash and prizes at an event officially sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating.

BBQ grillers will compete for $10,000 in prizes in one of the state’s largest BBQ cook-offs, sanctioned by the International Barbeque Cookers Association. Food trucks will vie for $11,000 in the Spirit of Texas CurbSide SmackDown. Everyone is invited to dust off their momma’s best recipes for a pie-baking contest with $5,000 in prizes. Gearheads will show their best cars and motorbikes in a competition for $10,000 in cash and prizes.

Live music and performances will be held every day of the festival.
