Participants at Saturday’s March of Dimes March For Babies at the College Station Medical Center will notice a familiar face leading the walk: KBTX Sports Anchor Cody Coil.
Cody, wife Allison and their son Creyton have been named this year’s March For Babies Grand Marshals.
“Only seven months ago, Allison and I were blessed with the birth of our first child – Creyton – at the Med,” said Cody. “Thankfully, he was born happy and healthy, but we know that’s not the case with so many other children here in the Brazos Valley. That’s why Allison and I believe it’s so important to support our local March of Dimes.”
Creyton Coil was the 201st delivery at the Med in August 2012. That same month, the Med set its all-time record for deliveries with 209. However, 12 of those babies required admission to the Med’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) due to premature birth or other health issues.
“This year alone, more than a half-million babies in the U.S. will be born prematurely,” said March of Dimes Community Director Katy Scott. “Our mission is to help moms have full-term pregnancies and research the problems that threaten the health of babies. In local communities across the country, we’re helping moms take charge of their health and supporting families when something goes wrong.”
To help fund its work in the Brazos Valley, the March of Dimes will hold its annual March For Babies on April 20 at the College Station Medical Center. The event will coincide with the Med’s annual NICU Reunion – a gathering of all families who’ve had babies admitted to the Med NICU. The schedule for Saturday is:
8:00 am – Registration & Team Photos
8:45 am – Opening Ceremonies
9:15 am – Walk Begins
10:30 am – noon – March For Babies Carnival & NICU Reunion
