The Cadet Golf Classic and the Patriot Dinner, in proud and patriotic support of Folds of Honor, is presented by Allen Academy in cooperation with Miramont Country Club on Sunday, April 30, and Monday, May 1, at Miramont Country Club in Bryan. Following in the rich tradition of military service in the Bryan and College Station communities and the legacy of Texas A&M University, Folds of Honor has partnered with Allen Academy to commemorate a history of selfless service and sacrifice.

The Patriot Dinner, to be hosted in the Miramont Ballroom, will feature an evening of guest speakers, including:

  • Opening remarks from Brigadier General Joe Ramirez, the Commandant of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. During his 31 years of military service, General Ramirez commanded soldiers around the world and served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for United States Central Command during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
  • A strong endorsement for Folds of Honor from Mark Dodge, a former member of the U.S. Army’s honor guard, who was at the Pentagon on the morning of September 11, 2001, when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the west wall of the facility. After his military service, Dodge eventually became a starting linebacker at Texas A&M, earning All-Big 12 honors as a senior in 2007.
  • Inspiring testimony from Ashley Thornton Schafer, the widow of USAF Major Rick “Tracer” Schafer, who was tragically killed on August 3, 2014, in the line of duty
  • Remarkable perspective from Major Ed Pulido, U.S. Army (Ret.), the Sr. VP of the Folds of Honor Foundation and a founding member of Warriors for Freedom Foundation. On August 17, 2004, Major Pulido hit a roadside bomb while serving with the Coalition Military Assistance Training Team, resulting in the amputation of his left leg. Major Pulido was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor, the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Joint Service Commendation and Achievement Medals.

The Cadet Golf Classic, which will be played on May 1, is an 18-hole, four-man scramble charitable event. The tournament is designed to raise scholarship funds for the families of fallen and disabled veterans through Folds of Honor and to generate contributions to the student Financial Assistance Program at Allen Academy.

Folds of Honor is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to families of military men and women who have fallen or been disabled while on active duty in the United States armed forces. The foundation’s educational scholarships support private education tuition and tutoring for children in grades K-12, as well as higher education tuition assistance for spouses and dependents.

Founded in 2007 by Major Dan Rooney, an F-16 fighter pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard who served three tours of duty in Iraq, Folds of Honor has awarded more than 12,000 scholarships in all 50 states, as well as Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, including more than 2,800 in 2016 alone.

Honored as the oldest private school in Texas (founded in 1886), Allen Academy celebrates 131 years of innovative learning and student development. Proud of its own military history, Allen Academy earned a reputation unmatched by any other military prep school in both Texas and the nation. From 1922 to 1983, Allen Academy and its Corps of Cadets earned the United States Army’s highest rating as an Honor Military School with Distinction. Today, Allen is home to more than 340 boys and girls from around the world in preschool to twelfth grade.  It is the only independent school within 75 miles of Bryan and is proud to represent the Brazos Valley in its membership to both NAIS and ISAS.

Situated adjacent to Allen Academy is the spectacular Miramont Country Club and residential community.  Since its opening in 2005, Miramont has cultivated a close relationship with Allen Academy in support of the school’s charter to develop students with a differential educational experience.
