Voices For Children and the City of College Station are honoring fathers and father-figures with a day of fishing at Cy Miller Park Pond in College Station (next to College Station Police Department).
In addition to fishing at the pond, there will be Texas Parks and Wildlife education stations, Brazos Valley Bombers’ bounce houses, and more. The event is free and open to the public, but participants will need to bring their own fishing poles. Food will also be available for purchase from area food vendors.
Registering to secure a spot on the pond is highly encouraged (register at www.vfcbrazos.org). A drawing will also be held for the opportunity to win one of two $250 Academy gift cards. Tickets to enter the drawing will be sold for $5 each or five tickets for $20. Winner(s) need not be present to win.
“We are excited about this first-time event and are grateful to Stylecraft Builders, Inc. and all of our sponsors for making this possible,” says VFC Executive Director Liana Lowey. “Being able to offer fathers and father-figures an opportunity to spend some quality time with their loved ones, especially in conjunction with Father’s Day, is a very meaningful thing for our agency.”
VFC is the local Court Appointed Special Advocates program whose mission is to recruit, train, and support volunteers from the community to be advocates for abused and neglected children in the foster care system. In addition, the agency does child abuse prevention and awareness workshops in the community for various schools, professional organizations, and churches.
