Mighty Slice Pizza will give a 14-inch slice of pizza to everyone who brings in canned food items on Thursday, September 29. All canned goods will be donated to the Brazos Valley Food Bank.

Free Pizza Day has a goal of contributing 250 pounds of goods to the Brazos Valley Food Bank. The event will be held at Mighty Slice, located at the Backyard on Northgate, from 11am – closing hours. Residents of Bryan/College Station are encouraged to come on September 29 with canned foods in hand to give back while enjoying pizza on the house. This one-day event is focused on creating opportunities for our community to take action for hunger relief, as well as set an example for restaurants to become part of the solution.

The Brazos Valley Food Bank is a central distribution site that unites food donors, volunteers, and hunger-relief agencies. As a part of its goals and values, the Brazos Valley Food Bank seeks to reduce waste through efficient food reclaiming systems and utilize strategic partnerships to distribute food to individuals in need. Through partnerships with 36 agencies in surrounding counties, the Brazos Valley Food Bank is on its way to distribute 6 million pounds of food this year to more than 50,000 recipients.

Mighty Slice Pizza is named for its extra-large slices, measuring at 14 inches, which can be considered a whole meal. The owners, brothers Andreas and Costa, always had a dream of owning a pizza shop, and after opening other successful restaurants and bars in town, they decided to make it a reality. Mighty Slice is known for the Slice of the Day, featuring everything from Pesto Chicken to Texas Chili Mac, and the Mighty Slice Pizza Challenge, which involves consuming 3 slices and a drink in under 30 minutes.

“The Free Pizza Day is scheduled during the perfect time for the Food Bank. September is Hunger Action Month, a nationwide effort to shine a light on the problem of hunger. Since 1 out of 5 households in the Brazos Valley struggle with hunger, supporters of this event will be making a real impact,” says Rhonda Behrens, Brazos Valley Food Bank Distribution Manager.

“Mighty Slice is new, but we’ve served food in the Brazos Valley for a long time,” says owner, Andreas, “the Free Pizza Day event is a way for us to use our resources to give back to our community. We hope to inspire everyone to come out and support the Food Bank and try a slice of pizza.”

The Mission of the Brazos Valley Food Bank is to alleviate hunger in the Brazos Valley by distributing food and educational resources to our neighbors in need through a network of hunger relief partners.

Free parking on the Northgate ground lot is available until 2pm and paid parking thereafter
