There are numerous activities at the Bryan and College Station Libraries this summer for all ages.You don’t need to spend a fortune visiting exotic locales this summer … just read a book! The Bryan+College Station Library has activities for kids, teens, tweens and adults.

For kids, the Youth Services Department hosts the “Ready to Read” program, which is held every Thursday through August 2. The Ready to Read program encourages children age 3 and up to enjoy a fun-filled story-time at the Clara B. Mounce Public Library.

The Youth Services Department also has a Children’s Summer Reading Club as well as “Babies and Books” that allows infants through the age of 2 to enjoy story-time as well.

Saturday, June 16, beginning at 10 a.m., the library will host Motorcycle Mania. The public is encouraged to visit the bike display outside of the Bryan library courtesy of the Jericho Riders. The goal of The Youth Services Department is to instill a love of reading in all children.

With all the activities available for the children of Bryan/ College Station, the department hopes these programs will improve literacy skills and prepare children for future success.

Teens and tweens also have many opportunities to participate in summer activities at both the Clara B. Mounce Public Library in Bryan and the Larry J. Ringer Library in College Station. The programs include watching a Detective Movie (PG-13) and afterwards being able to test special effects make-up, solve a murder mystery, enjoy a delicious pizza party and more.

The theme for the Summer Reading Program for Teens and Tweens this year is TSI: Realm of the Unknown. Tween events are for ages 9 to 12 or those who have completed 4th through 6th grade, and teen events are for ages 12 to 19 or those who have completed 6th through 12th grade.

As for adults, a wide range of services and programs are available at both libraries. Adults are able to check out magazines, DVDs, audio books and books or use the library computers for free. Adults can also enjoy a summer reading program with the theme “Unlock the Mystery.”

Free computer classes are held in the library courtesy of the BTOP grant. Classes do not require a library card or pre-registration to attend; they are first come, first serve. The classes will be covering topics on resume writing, online job searching, Microsoft word, online security and introduction to Facebook. 

Other adult activities available include a book club, film series, educational programs and much more. Adults who would like to volunteer at any of the libraries may contact a library manager or the library system director. Adults interested in volunteering may also visit the City of Bryan’s Volunteer Program website to see what opportunities are currently listed and to get an application.
