Join us on Wednesday, June 14, for the 7th Annual Juneteenth Children’s Art Festival hosted by the Clara B. Mounce Public Library as part of the Children Summer Reading initiative. From 10am until noon, children and their families can enjoy indoor art activities and a special celebration with renowned storyteller and Kenya native, Ms. Elizabeth Kahura, at 10:30am on the front lawn.
This free event is dedicated in memory of Mr. Thabiti Ngozi, the Chairman of the 1st Annual Juneteenth Children’s Art Festival and former President of Brazos Festival of African Art. Ms. Bobbee Pennington, Family Literacy Librarian at Clara B. Mounce Public Library, had a front row seat to the creation of this annual celebration. With the aid and guidance of Mr. Ngozi, Mr. Oliver Sadberry (Curator of the Brazos Valley African American Museum), and the late Mr. Ronnie Jackson (former Neighborhood and Youth Outreach Coordinator for the City of Bryan), Ms. Pennington helped organize the first event and has continued to coordinate the celebration each year ever since.
