Kicking off the Brazos Valley’s salute to National Police Memorial Week, the 2nd Annual Brazos County Law Enforcement Barbecue Cook-Off heats up once again between local crime fighters Saturday, May 9 from 10am to 4pm at Santa’s Wonderland in College Station.
With culinary bragging rights on the line, Brazos Valley law enforcement teams will fire up the competition in brisket, chicken and ribs categories. Local, regional and state agencies expected to participate include municipal and university police departments, sheriffs’ and constables’ offices, the Texas Department of Public Safety, state and federal correctional facilities, and Texas game wardens.
The public is invited and encouraged to be on hand to support their favorite cooking teams while getting to know their local law enforcement professionals. Live entertainment, a bouncy house for children, and other activities will be part of the festivities. Attendees will enjoy a barbecue sandwich plate, chips and a soft drink with a $10 donation for adults and a $5 donation for kids ages 3 and over. Kids under the age of 3 are admitted free. Food service will be available between 11am and 2pm.
Net proceeds benefit the Brazos County Law Enforcement Benevolent Fund that helps area law enforcement organizations, professionals and their immediate families during times of in-the-line-of-duty incidents or other personal or family emergencies. Since being formed in 2014, the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization has given nearly $5000 to The 100 Club of Houston, Still Creek Ranch, and three law enforcement professionals in need.
